Selling in Wellington-Wairarapa

What does it take to do successfully do business here?
The Wellington and Wairarapa regions couldn't be more different. Wellington with a huge population (by NZ standards) in generally tightly confined areas, where space is at a premium, compared to the Wairarapa region with it's slower paced market, lightly populated wide open spaces. Get these regions wrong, and chances are your business will not only suffer now, but take a lot of effort to turn around opinions.
This doesn't mean that you can't dominate these two regions. Wellington has the population, head offices and business leaders to catapult your business to national fame. Win in the Wairarapa, and you can be certain of their loyalty.
So what does it take to be successful here, and what do these customers look for and expect when doing business?
In my experience, it's all about the deal! With so much competition in Wellington, you need to have the best deal in town, now that doesn't mean drop your pants at the first chance, it's about delivering the most value, and more importantly, the largest opportunity for your customers to succeed. The Wairarapa also are after the best deal, as it's a short hop to the Capital, and often an area overlooked by companies. If you've got the right deal, then customers and your sales will flow.

You've got to give great service too. Always keep regular appointments and be able to deliver on your promises quickly. But yes, a great deal can get you into a lot of customers, but if it's just price you'll be out as quickly as you got into them.
